Gents, let’s talk moobs

Man boobs, or “moobs”, clinically known as gynecomastia, affects around 15% of adult men in the UK, and simply refers to enlargement in a man’s chest area.
It can be due to an excessive amount of fat together with a normal amount of glandular breast tissue and known as pseudogynecomastia. In true gynecomastia, excess glandular breast tissue is present along with fat.

Most enlarged male breasts are usually the result of excessive fat. Occasionally, however, a patient may have excessive glandular tissue. Most common causes are related to hormones, alcohol, marijuana and some medications The condition can occur in men of any age or weight but is particularly common during
puberty and in middle aged through to older men.

Many young men develop gynaecomastia after using steroids when bodybuilding in the gym and some require male breast reduction after weight loss. Dr Gupta offers least  invasive liposuction technique to help reduce excess fat on the male chest. True Gynecomastia can be treated by liposuction with limited success so in such cases patients may benefit more from surgical removal of breast tissue.

What are the symptoms of gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia causes either one or both sides of the male chest to appear enlarged, and it is also usually possible to feel a sort of gritty material behind the nipple itself, which is the gland. The softer tissue is fat.

Can the condition cause physical pain, or is it mostly psychological?
The condition can cause tenderness, but understandably most men are simply most concerned with their appearance. Many patients explain that the condition causes low self- confidence and makes them embarrassed to take their tops off.

Why is it becoming more of an issue?
Awareness in men has grown due to a number of reasons; with a focus on obesity but also
the increasing popularity of gyms and the knock on effects of men being more aware of their
bodies, and what can be done to target problem areas.

How long does a procedure normally take?
A male breast reduction procedure can take about two hours.

How much does it cost?
Usually from £3,250 upwards depending on the severity of the condition and the complexity of the individual’s case.

How quickly can you recover?
Smaller liposuction procedures usually come with one or two days recovery time. Surgical removals require a slightly longer time, sometime between three days and a week.

How has it helped change lives for the better?
Patients whom Dr Gupta has performed lipo on have reported many positive changes in their lives. Many tell us they have more self-confidence, others are less restricted in their choice of clothing and after surgery are happy to remove their T-shirt off in public. This is often something they were previously embarrassed to do because of how their chest area looked.
Our male chest reduction procedure is minimally invasive and a surefire way of helping you regain your lost confidence.

Dr Gupta treats each patient case-by-case, and can answer any questions or fears you may have about the process and the surgery.
